Bangkok Rockin (Part Two)
After checking in, we rested for a few minutes before heading out to get some food. Some friends recommended a very unique restaurant that we must try in Bangkok, so we headed there.
After 15 minutes of walking and not finding it, we were about to give up when suddenly one of us spotted the signage. Cabbages & Condoms anyone?

Celaka! What kind of place is this? Bangkok is full of all kinds of weird-ass wonderful shit eg. ping-pong shows, tiger shows, go-go girls…
I can’t begin to imagine what kind of show it will be that involves cabbages and condoms!
But actually no.
Its a restaurant started several years ago by the Population and Community Development Association of Thailand. The idea behind the name is that cabbages are cheap and widely available in Thailand. Its part of the staple diet of Thai people. If condoms were as cheap and widely available as cabbages, than some of the population and health problems of Thailand can be solved!
So this restaurant was made to create social awareness in a fun and hip way. I’m liking Thai people already.

Though the entrance was small, once we entered through the doors, the place was actually really big, and packed!

The place is decorated with lots of lights (made it sorta look like Christmas…) and of course, condoms! The place is literally filled with all things condoms. From old advertisements, posters, and even the furniture is decorated with it!

I didn’t take alot of photos, cause I was feeling tired and lazy. But there were manequins dressed in clothes made from condoms and birth-control pills, and lamp-shades, tables… etc. It was condom overload.

The food itself was incredible. The best Thai meal we had for the whole trip. I love Thai cooking. I love how they utilise ingredients and herbs that are so fresh and tasty - and it just goes together so well. And downed with Singha beer. I didn’t have too much beer cause I was suffering from the flu.
Its great place to eat. Lovely atmosphere, family-friendly, great staff and great food. It ain’t cheap but so what? I couldn’t ask for more.

dude, ive heard of that restaurant. it was a great way to raise awareness of using condoms since the sex industry in thailand is rather large, and with the worry of STDs and AIDS. Good to hear that the food was great as well! more pics!

Yea, but I’m not sure how effective it would be in educating their own locals though. The place was mainly targetted at tourists. About 90% of the diners were Angmo!
Plus there was also a crafts & souvenier store.
